Triathlon Thanks

Administrator June 4th, 2008

The organizers of TriRidgefield (Evan McGerald, director; Geoffrey Morris; John Proctor) would like to extend a huge thanks to all who participated and supported the 2nd annual TriRidgefield. Because of sponsor support, we are able to make a generous contribution to EJ’s House and the Boys & Girls Club. Sponsors who helped support the event include Georgetown Auto Body, Newstream Capital, Ridgefield Fitness, Casey Fuel, Connecticut Family Orthopedic, Ridgefield Bank, Ridgefield Magazine, Ridgefield Plumbing & Heating, Bethel Cycle, Ridgefield Cyclesport, Ridgefield Family Eye, Edgewood Management, Trillo Associates, The Binns, Collyer Catering, J2A Consulting, Newtown Performance, Ridgefield Physical Therapy, Poland Spring, Hammer Nutrition, ALR Financial, Mada Design, Graphic Management Partners and Cannondale. Round of applause, please.

We’d like to thank First Selectman Rudy Marconi for his tremendous support, Parks & Recreation for Martin Park and the lifeguards, teams from Fire Chief Heather Burford and Police Chief Ligi. We also thank the volunteer fire department, fire police, and radio operators. Also thanks to Pete Hill and the highway department, and the Great Pond Corp.

Special thanks goes to all of the 75 or so volunteers who came out in mass to help us safely and efficiently navigate 400 athletes around the three legs of the course, and to Robin Caruso who did a fantastic job coordinating this volunteer effort.

We would like to thank all Ridgefield residents. Seeing people from various neighborhoods, cheering and offering water, was inspiring for the athletes, especially at 7 am. We look forward to running this event next year and for many years to come!

It’s in the history books!

Packet Pickup

Administrator May 31st, 2008

We will be holding packet pickup from 2-4 pm today at Martin Park. I suggest trying to do it today as it is always easier to have everything before race morning. You still will need to get your chip tomorrow. If you don’t see your name on the list but you spoke about changing something or were added through a sponsor…don’t panic..just come talk to me :)

Practice Swim

Administrator May 24th, 2008

We put the buoys in last night. The water is…….hmmmn…refreshing? Actually it isn’t too bad, a few warm days and it will be perfect! Remember, practice swim will be available May 24-31st from 6-6:45pm. The last swimmer will be allowed in the water no later than 6:30. Lifeguards have lives too and don’t want to hang out there all night.

Welcome to TriRidgefield

Administrator May 15th, 2008

Welcome to TriRidgefield everyone. With just over two weeks left until the race event we are very busy finalizing all the details with the goal of making this a fantastic, safe and fun race. The race has been sold out since January and we look forward to a strong field of experienced and beginner triathletes. Hopefully you are all feeling strong and confident from all your months of hard work.

Here are a few details that you’ll need to get you through race day.

Parking
Parking is available at Pond’s Edge Professional Park, 901 Ethan Allen Hwy (approximately .25 miles from the intersection with Picketts Ridge Road). Racers and Spectators are not permitted to park at Martin Park this year.

Registration
The race will start promptly at 7 am and packet pick-up and the transition area will be open at 5:00 (bring a photo id). All race participants must be a member of USAT for course sanctioning. If you are not a member then you must pay $10 on race day for a one-day membership. Current USAT members are asked to bring their USAT license. Do not forget to bring your ID and $10 to registration that morning - no exceptions! We will also be holding packet pickup on Sat May 31 from 2-4 pm at Martin Park.

Transition Area
The transition area will not be available until you have picked up your race number and volunteers have written your number on your arms and legs. Please note that here is a single exit and entrance to the transition area. The transition area will be monitored by volunteers and the Ridgefield Police department throughout the race and until you pick up your belongings. Poland Spring Water and HEED will be present at the transition during the race.

Race Number and Chip
We will be using Champion Chip timing by Platt Tiiming and will provide you with a chip. We will be providing ankle straps to hold race chips to all participants. Chips must be worn on your ankle at all times during the race, no exceptions.

Swim
The swim will start in 6 waves based on age and gender. All participants are required to wear the swim cap that we will provide in your race packet. We highly recommend you rent/buy a wet suit.

Bike
Please follow all USAT biking rules (no drafting/blocking, helmets required) and marshals will be monitoring the course. No iPods or other music players are allowed on the race course (bike or run) at any time.

Run
There will be aid stations in transition, at mile one, and mile two. They will be stocked with Poland Spring water, Hammer HEED, and gels.

Finish Line
There will be a post-race party with breakfast served by Collyer Catering. Age group awards and gift baskets for the top three male and female finishers will be given out after the last racer finishes. Please feel free to bring along the family and friends!!

Course links are on the 2008 Race page link

Race day approaches

Administrator May 6th, 2008

We’ll start with parking..Pond’s Edge 901 Ethan Allen Highway(route 7) located about 500 yards past Great Pond rd going north on route 7. There will be no parking at the event site. You must park at Pond’s Edge. There is a wide shoulder on the road so I don’t think it is much of a problem to walk or ride to the transition. Please do not park at the Golf range.

On another note..Ridgefield Parks and Rec will be allowing tri participants to practice swim on the course..very cool..The course will be open May 24th-May 31 from 6pm to 7pm. Last swimmer can enter the water no later than 6:45. The drop in fee will be waived for tri participants. This worked out great last year..take advantage of it.

Spectators..try to get there early..there will be limited walking space and lots of fast moving athletes.

To be continued..

Registration

Administrator May 2nd, 2008

We are now under a month until race day. This is when everyone starts to get real nervous and questions whether or not they are ready for this. I get a lot of emails from people ready to drop out. Suck it up people, you can do it, it’s only a few hours of your life at the most. The end result is quite rewarding…stay the course and see it through… On another note, I will not be changing peoples categories from individual to relays anymore..there simply isn’t enough time in the day for us to keep changing the wave list around. Also, if you drop out at this point, we are not going to find replacements for you as I have been doing that for the last month…sorry and know that your race fee is going to a good cause. The final list is set, no more changes…
